"We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided."

As a part of the 3V Leader Success Zone, Rangeline CDC has partner with the Achievement School District to implement the 3V Leader Ambassador program through a collaborative after school program. The 3V Leader after-school program is a product of the Unity in the Community and Wraparound Family Empowerment Services solutions listed in the Frayser 2020 Plan and is operating an eighteen-week pilot program at Frayser Achievement Elementary School (FAES). The program runs Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday beginning each day at dismissal (4:00pm) until 6:30pm. The after-school program is working in tandem with existing efforts to improve the quality of life within the Frayser Success Zone (FSZ). The physical boundaries of the FSZ is as follows: North- Paulus Avenue; South- Whitney Avenue; East- Watkins Street and West- Steele Street.
After-school programming is part of FAES effort to catapult its performance from being in the bottom 5 percent of public schools to the top 25 percent in Tennessee. The goal of the after-school program is to help improve the academic achievement of student participants in the 3rd through 5th grades while simultaneously providing an opportunity and incentive to encourage improved civic engagement among the parents of student participants. Parents of student participants will be required to sign up as “3V Ambassadors,” a component of the Unity in the Community Initiative, in order to receive a voucher to the after-school program.
The components of the after-school program include daily homework assistance, literacy lessons, and civics lessons. Homework assistance is provided by paid tutors. Literacy lessons is provided by an expert reading teacher. Civics consist of learning how students can become more civically engaged in their school, neighborhood and community by using the 3V Leader system developed by Charlie Caswell. The following table reflects the weekly schedule and programmatic content:
The literacy lesson is an essential aspect of the after-school program. The lead teacher developed an age-appropriate curriculum based on the 3V program to strategically target, develop, and implement a data-driven process that lead to improved academic performance by the conclusion of the pilot period. The progress of each student participant will be tracked for the duration of the pilot program.
The civics component use the 3V Leader approach. The approach is based on the book How to Become more Visible, Vocal, and Valuable to your Community by Charlie Caswell. The 3V Leader approach help train youth to become the leaders of tomorrow. The vision of 3V Leaders is to see more youth become positive role models in their school and community. The course is implemented each day during the after-school program for the duration of the eighteen week pilot. Youth is trained and equipped on how to communicate, collaborate, and connect with the leaders within their community such as parents, pastors, principals, police, politicians, proprietors and community partners.
